Gay Life in Thailand for Solo Travelers: Bangkok Edition

You will never be alone when it comes to traveling in Thailand. The land of smiles is looking forward to welcoming all of the visitors whether you are single or in a relationship and straight or even gay. Come and experience by yourself!

Thailand is a land of diversity in terms of ethnicities, vibes and harmonies. This country has everything to fulfill everyone’s needs. Whether you are a first time traveler, traveling with your family, your loved one or all by yourself, it also doesn’t matter.

As for Thailand’s welcoming spirit, the westerners mostly influence gay culture in Thailand. Thai society has become more open to the gay community over time, and gays and lesbians are widely accepted as it is considered as a personal preference. Nowadays, there are several commercial places that have recently been opened to support the increasingly high number of gay men in Thailand.

This is the first of many in a series where we’ll share some of our favorite activities and places to stay as a solo traveler without spending too much money. First up, Bangkok.

SiLom District Bangkok

Where to stay:

The most famous area for gay scene in Thailand is called “Silom.” So if you want to be close to all of the fun spots, it is highly recommended to stay around this area. There are a bunch of hostels and hotels ranked from standard to high prices in Silom.

This budget accommodation is ideal who a solo gay traveler who is ready to make a lots of friends and save money on room and spend on entertaining activities. This hostel is located less than 1 kilometer from Silom area and just a short walk from MRT Sam Yan station. Rates start at approximately 300 THB per night (roughly $30-40 USD).

Mode Sathorn Hotel

For those of you who want to spend traveling abroad in luxury, this stylish hotel is right next to Silom road offering modern accommodations with average prices. All the nightlife attractions for gay travellers are just less than 10 minute ride away. This is more expensive than the hostel but prices start around 3,000 THB per night (about $100 per night in USD).

What to do:

Bangkok has many awe-inspiring attractions to visit during the daytime. But for gay travelers, there are no other better places to be in the nighttime than in a fantastic nightlife area where all the gay bars, a-go-go and saunas are.

Silom Soi 2 and Silom Soi 4

Soi in Thai means a pedestrian lane. These two lanes are right next to Patpong Street. It’s so easy to get here by taxi, sky train (Sala Deang station) or MRT (Sam Yan station). Both Silom Soi 2 and 2 are lined with gay bars, dance clubs and massage shops. There are special promotions every night where you can enjoy a small bottled beer for as low as 69 Baht (roughly 2 dollars). There are also bars where drag shows are performed late at 11.30 pm. DJ station is a must when you are in Silom. It’s considered the best Gay Bangkok club. It’s also totally fine if you get there early, there are many yummy restaurants and cool street shops in this area for you to enjoy.

Babylon

Babylon is one of the most famous men saunas in Bangkok for Thais, expats and visitors. This complex offers accommodations, sauna and stream rooms, restaurant, pool, bars and many more. The admission fee is reasonable and can be booked online in advance.

In addition, Babylon has an amazing fitness center for those who want to stay in shape while traveling abroad.
